In July 2019, CTR Carinthian Tech Research AG, one of the most established non-university research centers for Advanced Sensor Systems and Smart System Integration in Austria, was fully integrated into Silicon Austria Labs GmbH (SAL). SAL is Austria’s newly founded flagship for applied research in the field of electronic based systems (EBS), from components, assemblies and devices with micro and nanoelectronics to embedded software. SAL results from the work of ECSEL Austria and will play a major role in shaping Austria’s technological future. The research focuses on sensor systems, RF systems, power electronics and system integration. The SAL “Sensor Systems” division, which emerged from the CTR, can draw on more than 20 years of experience in this field and around 60 permanent researchers, as well as an excellent R&D infrastructure that covers the entire technology chain from proof of concept to prototype development.
